Tõnis Braks (pseudonyms Heini , Aruvälja Andres u. A .; * 7 August July / 19 August  1885 greg. In Parivere ; † October 20, 1966 in Tallinn ) was an Estonian journalist , playwright and children's book author .

Life

Braks attended a school in the Lihula community from 1895 to 1898 and then made a living as a farm worker. From 1906 he sent articles to newspapers that were soon published. From 1912 to 1920 he was a worker in various Tallinn factories, but at the same time also worked for various newspapers. In Estonia, which had become independent, he worked primarily for the daily newspaper Päevaleht from 1922 to 1940 , but still worked for other newspapers as well. After the Second World War he was subjected to reprisals and imprisoned from 1951 to 1954.

Braks became known primarily through his numerous feature sections in the daily newspapers. From 1930 he wrote plays, some of which dealt with historical events such as the revolution of 1905 or the German occupation in Estonia in 1918. His comedies have been performed successfully, and his plays are confirmed to have a language that is close to the people, whereas they are weak in terms of plot and idea.

He was also very productive as a writer of short stories for children, most of which appeared in magazines. He was praised for his realistic descriptions of the environment and compared to Richard Janno .
