Tõnu Naissoo (born March 18, 1951 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian composer and jazz musician .

life and work

Tõnu Naissoo was born the son of the Estonian composer Uno Naissoo (1928–1980). In 1982 he completed his studies in composition at the Tallinn State Conservatory ( Estonian Tallinna Riiklik Conservatory ) with Eino Tamberg (1930–2010). Naissoo trained at Berklee College of Music in Massachusetts in 1989/90 and worked as a music teacher in Finland in the early 1990s . He has been teaching in Tallinn since 1999.

In addition to his compositions, Tõnu Naissoo is also known as a (solo) pianist and jazz musician; In 1970 he presented the album Tõnu Naissoo Trio . He has composed numerous stage and film scores , including together with his father for the Estonian cult film Viimne reliikvia . Since 1984 he has been a member of the Estonian Composers' Association ( Eesti Heliloojate Liit ).
