TSR Boase
Thomas Sherrer Ross Boase (born August 31, 1898 in Dundee , † April 14, 1974 in London ) was a British art historian.
Life
Boase attended rugby school in England and studied modern history at Magdalen College , Oxford . From 1922 to 1937 he was a fellow and tutor at Hertford College .
In 1937 he became director of the Courtauld Institute of Art in London and professor of art history at the University of London . From 1947 to 1968 he was President of Magdalen College. He also served as Vice Chancellor of Oxford University from 1958 to 1960. From 1963 to 1964 he was Slade Professor of Fine Art at Oxford. In 1967 he was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society .
