The Amway Arena (formerly Orlando Arena , TD Waterhouse Center , and The Arena in Orlando ) was a multi-functional arena in the US city of Orlando that has since been demolished . It served mainly as the venue for the Orlando Magic ( NBA ), the Orlando Predators ( AFL ) and the Orlando Sharks ( MISL ), but numerous other events were also held.
The arena was built in 1989 and was funded only by public funds. In 1999 TD Waterhouse secured the naming rights until they were replaced by Amway in 2006 .
In 2006, plans for a new arena were also announced, costing $ 480 million and due for completion in the 2010-11 season. The Amway Center , designed by HOK Sport and others, has a capacity of up to 20,000 seats. On October 1, 2010 the new arena was opened and on the 29th of the month, the first NBA season game of the Orlando Magic took place there. The Amway Arena has been closed since the end of the 2009/2010 NBA season and most of it was blown up on March 25, 2012 at 7:30 a.m. (Eastern Time).
