Herford gymnastics community
The gymnastics community Herford (TGH), founded on December 15, 1860, is a sports club based in Herford . With over 3,700 members (as of mid-2017) , the TGH is the association with the largest number of members in the Herford district . The largest division is made up of recreational athletes with around 1,300 members.
history
After gymnasts from the Bielefeld gymnastics community suggested the establishment of a gymnastics club in Herford in July 1860 , the board of the new club was elected at a general meeting on December 15, 1860. In the turmoil of the Franco-Prussian War , club life came to a standstill, whereupon the club was re-established on December 3, 1871. After the introduction of the new civil code, it was entered in the register of associations in 1900.
In 1909, the 1st Stuckenberg Festival was celebrated in front of the Herford Bismarck Tower . Two years later, a gymnasium was completed on the Lübberbruch , the gallery of which was converted into a club room in 1931. At that time the association had about 500 members. In 1934 the "Turnerbund von 1878 Herford" joined the gymnastics community.
After the Second World War, the first general meeting took place on April 4, 1946 and in 1964 the office was set up in the gym on the Lübberbruch. In 1984 the association had 2,000 members.
The biggest change came in 1996 when part of the area at Waldfrieden Zoo , which had been used by the British armed forces , was rededicated by the city as a sports park . The gymnastics community Herford bought the existing sports hall and other areas and opened their sports facility on September 20, 1998. In 2002, the Lübberbruch office moved into the sports park, which is now also home to the Herford Tennis Club (TCH), the Herford club for Aviation, the German Life Rescue Society (DLRG), the Endspurt cycling club, the Motor-Veteranen-Sport-Club Herford (MSC) and other clubs had settled.
The number of members rose from 3,000 in 2002 to around 4,000 at the beginning of 2010. It was also achieved through the addition of other clubs to the gymnastics club in the course of its history.

The athletes are active in 19 departments. The largest department is made up of recreational athletes with 1,300 members. Then come the gymnasts with around 600 members. Other sports are: badminton , basketball , billiards , figure skating , fencing , handball , juggling , judo , jujutsu , bowling , athletics , swimming , taekwondo , table tennis , TG PLAY !, gymnastics and volleyball .
successes
The most successful athletes are the bowlers who have been playing in the scissors Bundesliga again since 2014 , as they had for several years until 2011. In 1998 they became German champions. From 2011 to 2014 the first team played in the 2nd Bundesliga, the second team played there from 2006 to 2009. With the bowler Dietmar Knörenschild and the fencer Wolf Nettingsmeyer there are two senior world champions in the club.
Sports facilities
There is a sports hall, a gymnastics hall, a multi-purpose room, a multifunctional room, a bowling facility, a billiards studio, a fitness room and a beach volleyball court on the premises of the sports facility in the Waldfrieden Sports Park. There is also a sauna, an information center and social room. The sports hall was expanded in 2010.
In addition to the sports facilities that are located on the site, other sports facilities are used in the city of Herford, such as B. the leisure pool H2O and the outdoor pool "Im Kleine Felde" from the swimming department, the ice rink "Im Kleine Felde" from the figure skaters as well as the Ludwig-Jahn-Stadion , the gym on the Lübberbruch and almost all school gyms in the city.
kindergarten
The association operates the TG “Hops!” Movement kindergarten on its premises, which focuses on physical education. In mid-2013, 45 children between the ages of 3 and 6 and 10 children under 3 years of age attended the facility.
