Ernst Hodel Junior 1881–1955
Three-part mural from 1927 shows Jungfraubahn-Jungfraujoch, Gstaad-Bernese Oberland, Silsersee-Engadin-Graubünden.  It was restored in accordance with the preservation order in 2015 and can be seen in the Basel SBB station concourse.

Ernst Hodel junior (born July 29, 1881 in Lucerne ; † October 5, 1955 there ) was a Swiss painter and son of the landscape painter Ernst Hodel senior .

Life and work

Ernst Hodel received his artistic training at the Royal Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . After various long study stays in Paris and Milan , he returned to Switzerland. As an artist, he was rather conservative and primarily painted rural scenes.

In Basel SBB has two painted by Hodel murals, including a five by fifteen meters large painting of Lake Lucerne . He also completed the exhibition of large-scale Alpine panorama pictures that his father had initiated in the Alpineum Lucerne .

He found his final resting place in the Friedental cemetery .
