Tixo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tixo is in the 1950s by the company Kores in Vienna developed transparent adhesive tape in accordance with the sellotape . It is made in Vienna-Liesing .

Robert Koreska brought the idea with him from the USA , where 3M had already developed the market under the Scotch brand . He had the first Austrian self-adhesive tape developed in the company's own laboratory. Ludwig Reindl , who has been the inventor of this product since then, was in charge of it .

Robert Koreska had chosen the name. It comes from an anagram from Tiox, a Koreska brand for inks and ink pads. Tiox, in turn, comes from an abbreviation for basic chemical substances like titanium oxide .

In 1985, Koreska stopped producing adhesive tapes. The German company Beiersdorf took over the trademark rights and partially replaced Tixo with its own brand Tesa .

The name Tixo is also used in Austria as a generic name for transparent adhesive tape. Its use as a generic term in Austria has so far had no effect on the Tixo brand. It is also listed in the Austrian dictionary as follows:

"Tixo ® das, -s / -s (watermark): a transparent adhesive strip"

- ÖWB 43rd edition

In Bulgaria, Tixo (Bulgarian: Тиксо) is also used to denote any type of adhesive tape.
