TSG Herdecke

The TSG Handball Herdecke was a handball club from Herdecke / Westphalia, which in the 2000/2001 season to the second handball league played.

After several years in the handball regional league West , he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1993/94 in the promotion games against Spvg Versmold under the then coach Heiner Möller . The team was grouped into the northern relay. Also in the first second division season they went under coach Heiner Möller, but strengthened themselves with the former Russian international Alexander "Sascha" Maistrenko, who remained the main player of the Herdecker over the entire time in the 2. Bundesliga. In the first season, they just secured relegation. For the 1995/96 season , successful coach Möller left the Herdecker and Michael Lohrmann took over. Under him, the Herdeck team managed to stay in the league in the two following seasons. For the 1997/98 season , coach Jens Pfänder from the club division DJK Oespel-Kley came to TSG as the new coach. TSG's most successful years began under him. Players like Mark Schmetz , Torsten Friedrich , Anders Altberg and EX national player Tobias Schröder joined TSG. In the first year under Jens Pfänder, TSG took 5th place in the northern relay.

For the 1999/2000 season , TSG Herdecke was grouped from the northern relay to the southern relay, which led to increased travel costs during the season. Due to the distance, the number of fans also decreased dramatically, so that there was also a lack of income in this area. For the 2000/2001 season it was already clear that permanent financing of the game operation would no longer be possible under the given circumstances. As Plan A, a move to Dortmund was considered in order to be able to play in a larger hall in front of more spectators. The club name has already been expanded to include TSG Handball Herdecke-Dortmund . However, the plan met with rejection from many supporters of TSG, as they refused to leave the venue on Bleichstein.

While the 2000/01 season was extremely successful in sporting terms and TSG even played for promotion to the 1st Bundesliga and defeated the big favorites Frisch Auf Göppingen in their hall, the economic prospects were still uncertain. After it was relatively clear that Plan A could not be implemented, a final option was considered to be a syndicate with the regional league team and local rival VfL Eintracht Hagen . Due to the long rivalry between the two clubs and the dispute over the venue (Ischeland- or Bleichsteinhalle), this plan never became a reality. After one of the two main sponsors, Günter Ocker, withdrew, there was nothing left after the season but the voluntary withdrawal to the Oberliga Westfalen. Although important pillars of the second division team such as Alexander Maistrenko and Heiko Kresse remained loyal to the club, the financial decline could no longer be stopped due to declining audience numbers. After the 2004/05 season and the sporting relegation to the association league , the club was no longer able to raise the necessary funds for the association league, as sometimes only 100 spectators came to the games. At the second division games there were usually around 600-800 spectators. So they withdrew to the district league .

After that, on June 1, 2006, the club merged with the TUS Ende and has been operating under the name HSG Herdecke / Ende ever since.

The venue of TSG Handball Herdecke was the 1,200-seat Bleichsteinhalle .
