Torsten Friedrich (born January 25, 1971 in Frankleben ) is a former German handball goalkeeper .
Torsten Friedrich began playing handball in his home community at BSG Stahl Frankleben . Soon he was delegated to Dynamo Halle-Neustadt, finally he came to the A-youth of Dynamo Berlin, where he played with Stefan Kretzschmar among others . After the fall of the Wall , he went to the West German second division club VfL Eintracht Hagen in 1990 .
After seven and a half years he moved to TSG Herdecke , where he met coach Jens Pfänder . It was also Pfänder who took Friedrich with him to the first division club SG Solingen after Herdeck's bankruptcy in 2001 . Despite 23 points earned, Solingen rose in the 2001/02 season, whereupon Pfänder went to TuS Nettelstedt-Lübbecke . Friedrich switched to the SC Magdeburg Gladiators - back to his homeland. Here he also won his only title: the European Club Championship in 2002. Although he was usually only second choice behind Johannes Bitter , Torsten Friedrich became a crowd favorite.
In 2005, Friedrich's expiring contract in Magdeburg was not extended, whereupon his old trainer Jens Pfänder brought him to TuS Nettelstedt-Lübbecke . In the 2006/07 season Nettelstedt was permanently in the relegation region, coach Pfänder had to leave, Nettelstedt prevented relegation only in the relegation against TSV Bayer Dormagen . Thereupon Friedrich Nettelstedt-Lübbecke left and joined the promoted TUSEM Essen , where he was initially trained again by Jens Pfänder, but was again in danger of relegation and only held the class under the new coach Krzysztof Szargiej . In 2008 Friedrich moved to the second division for ASV Hamm . After the merger of ASV Hamm and Ahlener SG , Friedrich took on a number of tasks at the HSG Ahlen-Hamm that resulted from it and played for their second team, the HSG Youngsters. After relegation and the dissolution of the syndicate, he plays again for ASV Hamm-Westphalia. For the 2013/14 season, Friedrich ended his career and became assistant coach at ASV Hamm-Westfalen.
He is also the coach of the U17 youth team, which plays in the major leagues.
