The TSV Germania Chemnitz 08 is a multi-genre club in Chemnitz district Altchemnitz.

The TSV Germania was formed on July 1st, 2008 through the merger of the previous clubs SV Germania Chemnitz and TSV 1950 Chemnitz. These two clubs had their roots in the company sports associations Motor Germania and Motor Spinnbau. Motor Germania became known nationwide in 1973 and 1974 through its soccer team when they played in the GDR league , the second highest soccer class in the GDR. Since it was founded, TSV Germania has also offered sports such as table tennis , bowling , gymnastics , fishing and hiking in addition to football .

Club structure

The TSV Germania sports center in Chemnitzer Annaberger Straße was already used by the National 1900 sports club at the beginning of the 20th century . Its football team became champions of the Central Saxony football region in 1920. After all sports clubs in East Germany were smashed after the Second World War, a completely new sports structure was created there. In Chemnitz, several sports communities were initially founded, which were replaced by so-called company sports communities (BSG) from 1948 . Among other things, the Chemnitz machine and plant factory "Germania" founded the BSG Motor Germania, in which the athletes from SG Stahl Süd, which had previously been known as Blau-Weiß Altchemnitz, were accepted. The BSG, which at times had around 600 members, operated the sections football, table tennis, bowling, gymnastics, fishing and hiking. The most successful were the soccer players who played with their men's team between 1973 and 1975 in the second highest GDR soccer class, the GDR league. When, after the political change in 1989, the economic foundations for the company sports associations ceased to exist, members of the previous BSG Germania founded the SV Germania Chemnitz on August 8, 1990, which continued all BSG sports except for the bowling section. On July 1, 2008, the SV Germania merged with the TSV 1950 Chemnitz to form TSV Germania Chemnitz 08. The development of the TSV 1950 also goes back to the time of the GDR, at that time as BSG Motor Spinnbau. After the merger, the club, which has around 500 members, has three sports facilities in the south of Chemnitz.

Development of the sport of football

BSG Motor Germania was one of the founding teams of the third-class district league Chemnitz / Karl-Marx-Stadt, which was introduced in 1952 . For nine years she was able to occupy places in the upper half of the table, but in 1963 the 11th and penultimate rank meant relegation to the district class Karl-Marx-Stadt. The team stayed there until 1967, followed by another six years in the district league.

In the meantime, several former top division players from FC Karl-Marx-Stadt had registered with Motor Germania to end their careers there. As a result, Motor Germania gained playing strength, won the district championship in 1973 and qualified for the second-rate GDR league. In the twelve field of season D, the team reached in their first GDR league season 1973/74 place 9 with seven wins from 22 point games. A year later it was only enough to win two league games, and Motor Germania had to go back to the district league as bottom of the table. There you were immediately passed down, so that from 1976 the team only played fourth class. BSG Motor only competed in the district league again for one season, but then remained in the district class until the GDR football operation ended.

The soccer team of BSG Motor Spinnbau never got beyond the district level in GDR soccer . Successor TSV 1950 had its best time between 2004 and 2007, when the soccer team played in the Chemnitz district class (then 7th league). SV Germania played a league better from 2001 to 2003 in the Chemnitz district league. After that, however, the decline followed to the district league Chemnitz (8th league). TSV Germania has been playing in the Chemnitz district class since 2008, after the introduction of the 3rd division of the DFB, the 8th division.
