Albrecht Müller (born October 5, 1939 ) was a football player in the GDR upper division SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt and SC / FC Karl-Marx-Stadt . He is a three-time young national player of the GDR.

Athletic career

Until 1959, Albrecht Müller, who had completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer, played in the small company sports club Motor in the small town of Rodewisch in Vogtland . From there he was delegated to SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt at the beginning of the football season in 1960. The club, based in Aue 30 km from Rodewisch, had become GDR champions in the preseason. Müller, 1.73 m tall, immediately fought for a regular place in the championship as a defender and completed 20 point games in his first league season. He was immediately challenged internationally, in the European Cup of National Champions in 1960 he played the three only EC games of the Wismut team against the Austrian champions Rapid Vienna(3: 1, 0: 2, 0: 1). Then there was a career break, because due to a serious injury he could play almost no game between August 1961 and October 1962, and so Müller was used in the 1961/62 and 1962/63 seasons only in 28 of the 65 league point games.

In the summer of 1963 Müller made a club change together with Dieter Erler and Manfred Hambeck and joined SC Karl-Marx-Stadt, which also played in the top division. There he got better again, so that he was used in an international match of the GDR youth team in September 1963. By 1965 he had a total of three official youth internationals. Albrecht Müller celebrated his greatest success in the 1966/67 season, when he surprisingly won the GDR championship with FCK. Usually used as a right midfielder, he played 24 of the 26 championship games. In the following season he was able to compete again in the European Cup, but also the FC Karl-Marx-Stadt survived only one round after two defeats against the Belgian champions RSC Anderlecht (1: 3 and 1: 2). Müller was used in both matches.

In 1969, FC Karl-Marx-Stadt made it to the final of the GDR soccer cup . Müller played as a right defender, but could not prevent the clear 4-0 defeat against 1. FC Magdeburg . He experienced another blow in the neck in the following season when he had to relegate his team from the league. He took this as an opportunity to retire from high-performance sport at the age of almost 31 in the summer of 1970 after 195 league games (48 for Aue, 147 for SC / FCK). He spent the rest of his active career at BSG Motor Germania Karl-Marx-Stadt in the third-rate district league .
