Kurt Herrfurth (born May 9, 1879 in Berlin ; † unknown) was Lord Mayor of Gera from 1918 to 1925 .

Career

Herrfurth passed his school-leaving examination in 1899 and then studied economics and law in Freiburg im Breisgau and Berlin. He received his doctorate in Marburg . He then worked as director of the insurance company "Friedrich Wilhelm" in Berlin and then as director of the Magdeburg life insurance company.

After the outbreak of World War I , Herrfurth went to the Royal Prussian War Ministry as an assessor in December 1914 . After being wounded in the war, he applied to be a city councilor in Gera.

In the course of the November Revolution, the previous Lord Mayor Ludwig Ernst Huhn was removed from the Gera Workers 'and Soldiers' Council on November 10, 1918 . On November 29th, Dr. Kurt Herrfurth elected Lord Mayor with three dissenting votes by the local council.

On January 1, 1919, ten surrounding communities (including Untermhaus , Pforten and Zwötzen ) were incorporated into Gera through an emergency law . Another seven places followed in 1922 (including Ernsee ) and 1923 (including Windischenbernsdorf and Frankenthal ). These numerous incorporations increased the population of the city from around 45,000 (1917) to over 81,000 (1925). Some communities protested against their incorporation, so that in 1924/25 four places were again excluded. From 1920 Gera belonged to the newly founded state of Thuringia , in which it formed its own urban district from 1922.

During his tenure, Kurt Herrfurth opened the forest hospital on the western outskirts in 1920 and the municipal summer pool on July 20, 1924. On April 30, 1925, he did not stand for election again, thereupon resigned from office and returned to Berlin.
