Robert Fischer (politician)

Julius Robert Fischer (born July 19, 1829 in Gera ; † February 4, 1905 there ) was Lord Mayor of Gera from 1877 to 1881 .

Life

Julius Robert Fischer was born in Gera as the son of the painter Heinrich Fischer. His older brother was the painter Theodor Fischer . After attending the Rutheneum high school in Gera , he studied law and economics in Leipzig . After completing his studies, he entered the service of the Gera city council and in 1859 was council treasurer. In addition, he taught shorthand, commercial law and economics at the Amthorschen commercial college from 1856 to 1869. Fischer was a leading exponent of the Gabelsberger shorthand and achieved international recognition here.

In 1877 he was elected Lord Mayor of Gera. His work within the city administration was essential for the development of the city of Gera. The rules of procedure for the city council, building police and road regulations, reorganization of the fire brigade and the creation of a health department can be traced back to his initiative. From 1881 he was a secret councilor in the Princely Ministry.

From October 31, 1877 to October 1, 1880 he was a member of the Reuss younger line of the Landtag . From May 2, 1882 to September 1, 1895 he was princely state parliament commissioner .

In 1857 he was accepted into the Archimedes Masonic Lodge for the eternal league in Gera. After 1863 he was the chair's master several times and wrote over 500 Masonic writings.

Robert-Fischer-Strasse in Gera was named after him in 1920.
