Gera City Council with Mayor Lade (1893)

Kurt Alwin Lade , also Kurt Albin Lade , called Ruick (born January 19, 1843 in Kamenz ; † May 8, 1922 in Dresden ) was a German local politician and Lord Mayor of Gera from 1881 to 1898.

Career

Laden's father, Carl Anton Lade, called Ruick, was a city councilor and government attorney in Kamenz. Lade attended high school in Zittau and then studied law from 1863 to 1870 at the University of Leipzig , where he joined the Corps Lusatia Leipzig in 1864 . After completing his studies, he became an accessist at the Royal Saxon Court Office in Kamenz, then trainee lawyer at the Reichenbach Court Office in Vogtland . From 1874 to 1879 he was second councilor at the Plauen city council.

On May 6, 1881, the Gera city council elected Lade as mayor, and on June 16 of the same year he took office with the award of civil rights.

As a result of industrialization, Gera grew very rapidly in the last decades of the 19th century - while in 1880 it had around 27,000 inhabitants, in 1900 there were already 45,000. During Lade's term of office, among other things, the inauguration of the Luther School (1883) and the new school building for the Rutheneum High School (1887), the opening of the Gera tram as the second tram network in Germany (February 22, 1892) and the establishment of the Workers' Gymnastics Federation in Gera (1893).

Lades originally planned six-year term of office was extended to sixteen years in the spring of 1885 in order to prevent his planned appointment as mayor of Schleswig . In 1898, however, after a unanimous vote of no confidence by the municipal council, he had to submit his resignation, which the council accepted on April 15, 1898. The vote of no confidence was justified with a change in behavior since his last election. Among other things, he was accused of having borrowed a mortgage of 12,000 marks from a municipal foundation for an estate belonging to the mayor's wife and that the interest had not been paid on time. It was also said that Lade's wife had repeatedly sold eggs and butter to the city hospital at inflated prices.

Lade's tenure as Lord Mayor ended on August 6, 1898; he then moved to Dresden, where he died in 1922. Ludwig Ernst Huhn was elected as his successor as Lord Mayor in October 1898.

From October 31, 1883 to September 14, 1887 and from October 27, 1895 to September 16, 1898 he was a member of the Reuss younger line of the Landtag .
