Andreas Mitzenheim

Andreas Mitzenheim (born January 11, 1952 ; † July 3, 2007 ) was a German local politician ( CDU ) and Lord Mayor of Gera from 1993 to 1994 .

Life

After training as a bricklayer , Andreas Mitzenheim studied economics at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and then worked in two Gera companies until 1990.

In 1987 he became a member of the GDR CDU , joined the city administration on June 1, 1990 and became city councilor for finances. On November 18, 1993, after the resignation of the first post-reunification Lord Mayor Michael Galley , he was elected Lord Mayor of the city of Gera by the city council, but was subject to Ralf Rauch in the second round of the regular mayor election six months later . It was the first direct mayor election in the city's history.

Andreas Mitzenheim then took over the chairmanship of the CDU parliamentary group, was elected mayor and finance officer by the city council in 1995 and held this position until 2001. Under his leadership, the city treasury, the city treasury and the tax office of Gera came into being after the political change and he helped shape the regional reform. Mitzenheim worked as the head of finance during the two currency conversions from the GDR to the D-Mark and later from the D-Mark to the Euro.

At the end of the 1990s, Andreas Mitzenheim's pronounced Christian view of the world prompted him to become more involved in social projects in Eastern Europe. Together with Lebenshilfe and the Gera Forest Clinic, he initiated various social projects and aid campaigns in the Gera partner cities Sliven , Bulgaria and Goražde , Bosnia .

Andreas Mitzenheim died after a long and serious illness.
