Norbert Vornehm (SPD) in April 2011

Norbert Vornehm (born February 9, 1955 in Stuttgart ) is a German politician and trade unionist and was Lord Mayor of Gera from July 2006 to June 2012 . He has been a member of the SPD for many years , but stood in the mayoral elections as a formally independent candidate supported by the SPD, the Greens and the Left . In 2012 he was voted out of office as Lord Mayor; In 2014, his candidacy for the office of mayor of Naumburg (Saale) failed .

Career

education

After graduating from high school in 1974 at the Hegel-Gymnasium in Stuttgart, he studied administrative sciences in Konstanz and Berlin. 1984 doctorate he attended the University of Konstanz Dr. rer. soc. (PhD in Social Sciences ) on the work Standard and Function of Union Base Structures in Wales (published 1985 under the title Organization and Base ).

Professional career

From 1985 onwards, Vornehm held numerous political and scientific positions. At first he was a research assistant for the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia and for the SPD member of the Bundestag Peter Conradi . In addition, he was briefly (1985 to 1986) advisor to the SPD parliamentary group in the Cologne City Council . From 1986 to 1991 he was a member of the main board of the ÖTV trade union .

After taking on leading positions in the local transport companies of Kassel and Heidelberg , among other things , he was appointed managing director of Geraer Verkehrsbetrieb GmbH (GVB) in 1996. In 1998 the GVB was incorporated into Geraer Stadtwerke AG, and its chairman became elegant.

Lord Mayor of the City of Gera from 2006

As a result of his work in the municipal utilities, Vornehm was one of the most influential people in the city of Gera and was therefore nominated as a formally independent candidate for the mayoral election in 2006 by the SPD, B90 / Die Grünen and Linkspartei.PDS . In the mayor election, the first round of which took place on May 6, 2006, Vornehm already received a clear lead of around 44.4% of the votes over the then incumbent Ralf Rauch , who received 29.4% of the votes. In the second ballot, which took place 14 days later, Vornehm was finally able to win an absolute majority (54.7%) against Rauch. On July 1, 2006, Noble was introduced to his office as the new Lord Mayor of Gera.

In his role as Lord Mayor, Vornehm was appointed to the Board of Directors of Landesbank Hessen - Thüringen ( Helaba ) on October 1, 2006 .

At the end of 2006, elegant announcement caused a sensation that one of the most modern municipal service centers in Germany would be set up at Gera's central location, where citizens can handle almost all administrative procedures centrally. It opened on December 1, 2006.

In October 2009, Vornehm and his Erfurt official colleague Andreas Bausewein were among the initiators of a signature collection at the Thuringian SPD base, which was directed against the coalition negotiations between SPD country leader Christoph Matschie and the CDU .

Defeat in the mayoral election in Gera 2012

In the 2012 election, Vornehm again applied for the office of Lord Mayor of Gera, but failed in the runoff election to Viola Hahn , who was elected as the new Lord Mayor.

Loss in the mayoral election in Naumburg (Saale) in 2014

In January 2014 it became known that the municipal council groups of the SPD, FDP, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and Die Linke in Naumburg (Saale) would nominate Norbert Vornehm as a joint candidate for the mayoral election. In the election on May 25, 2014, Vornehm came in third with 14.83% of the vote, behind incumbent Bernward Küper (53.95%) and the non-party candidate Henrik Schumann (26.92%).
