Wilhelm Weber (born February 25, 1832 in Berlin ; † October 18, 1899 ibid) was a German lawyer , politician ( DFP , later NLP ), Lord Mayor of Gera from 1865 to 1872 and member of the Landtag of the Principality of Reuss Younger from 1866 to 1871 Line .

Life

Weber attended the municipal trade school in Berlin, then studied at the law faculty of the Berlin University and later got a job at the royal Prussian city court in Berlin.

Since he was denied a promotion in the civil service due to his commitment to the German Progressive Party, he applied for the advertised position of Lord Mayor in Gera and was elected for six years on September 15, 1865. He fundamentally reformed the city administration and thus created the basis for the extremely positive development of the city. In 1869 he was a co-founder of the Thuringian Association of Cities and in 1870 of the Association for the Promotion and Representation of the Trades . Wilhelm Weber was re-elected Lord Mayor in 1871, but resigned his office in 1872 to accept a position as in-house counsel at the Berlin bank S. Bleichröder . This was the beginning of a steep career advancement. He died a millionaire in Berlin-Steglitz .

Afterlife

In 1924, the Wilhelm-Weber-Hof residential complex was built in the northern inner city of Gera and named after the former mayor (1960 to 1991 Hans-Beimler-Strasse ).
