Manfred Hambeck (born August 10, 1938 in Aue) was a soccer goalkeeper in the GDR Oberliga , where he played for SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt and SC / FC Karl-Marx-Stadt .

Athletic career

Manfred Hambeck began his career at SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt , for which he was active in the GDR league from 1960 . He played his first league game on March 20, 1960 at SC Chemie Halle (0: 1), when Hambeck came on after three minutes for the injured Lothar Neupert . His next league assignment for the Auer was again on September 17, 1961 at SC Aufbau Magdeburg (0-0).

From then on he was the goalkeeper and was able to oust the more experienced Klaus Thiele and Neupert. He played his last league game for SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt on a neutral place in Döbeln on May 27, 1962, also against SC Chemie Halle (1: 2). During this time Hambeck also played an international match with the B national team of the GDR. Then he was replaced again in Aue by Thiele in goal - also as a result of an injury - and was no longer taken into account for the Wismut league team in the 1962/63 season. In 1963, Hambeck moved to SC Karl-Marx-Stadt after 22 league games for Aue together with Dieter Erler and Albrecht Müller .

His first game for the SCK was on August 10, 1963 at the start of the 1963/64 season at the home game against ASK Vorwärts Berlin (0-2). Hambeck ousted the previous goalkeepers Dieter Löschner and Joachim Gröper and played all 26 league games in his first season for the Karl-Marx-Städter. Between 1963 and 1964, Hambeck again completed two B internationals. 1967 Hambeck was with the "sky blue" GDR champions (now as FC Karl-Marx-Stadt), where he was used in all point games of the championship season. Since FC Karl-Marx-Stadt had qualified for the European Cup in 1967/68 through the championship , Hambeck played in the FC’s first cup match against Belgian champions RSC Anderlecht (1: 3). Since Gröper was in goal in the second leg and FCK was eliminated from the competition after the second defeat (1: 2), Hambeck's international career was over. His last league game for FC Karl-Marx-Stadt he completed on May 30, 1970 on neutral ground in Halle against Wismut Aue . The 1: 2 defeat meant relegation for the Karl Marx townspeople. When the team was rebuilt in the GDR League under coach Heinz Weber , Hambeck was no longer there. So he ended his career in 1970 after another 130 league games.

Particular appreciation was given in the FuWo Hambeck's fair gesture in the game against last year's champions FC Vorwärts Berlin , in which a correct hit from Berlin was initially not given. After a brief hesitation, Hambeck informed the referee that the ball had not landed next to but in the goal.
