The grave TT33 ( English Theban Tomb 33 ) is located in the necropolis of al-Asasif in Thebes- West in Egypt . It was laid out by the chief reading priest Petamenophis shortly before or during the reign of Pharaoh Psammetich I ( 26th Dynasty ).

exploration

The grave was discovered in the 19th century. Johannes Dümichen had examined it and was planning to publish his research in seven volumes. However, he died in 1894 shortly before the third volume , which was published posthumously by his student Wilhelm Spiegelberg . The investigations were therefore stopped and the grave was locked. It was reopened on December 7, 2005 and is being examined by a team led by the Strasbourg Egyptologist Claude Traunecker .

description

This tomb is not far from the tombs of the pharaohs in the Valley of the Kings , but it is larger than all of them in size and design. Two forecourts with pylons are in front of the entrance . Its total length is over 100 meters and the 22 rooms are spread over three floors down to 20 meters underground.

The walls are covered with an extraordinarily extensive collection of "classic" works of the afterlife:
