The TVR Griffith (later also: Griffith 500 ) is a sports car built by TVR from 1991 to 2002 . The model name is based on the Griffith 200 or 400 , which was particularly successful in the USA in the 1960s. The new Griffith is also a light (1048 kg) two-seater with a V8 engine. The body is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic .

Model description

Initially, the Griffith had a 4.0 liter Rover V8 that developed 179 kW (243 hp). In 1992 the displacement was increased to 4.3 liters and the output increased to 209 kW (284 hp). From 1993 there was a self-developed 5.0-liter V8 with 254 kW (345 hp) instead of the Rover engine, even if the new engine was still based on the Rover engine. 49 Griffith 500 vehicles were manufactured in 1993. All models had a five-speed gearbox .

Despite the technical similarities to the TVR Chimaera , the Griffith achieves higher prices on the used car market due to the lower number of units.

In 2000, TVR announced the end of the Griffith and built a special edition (SE) limited to 100 vehicles. His successor was Tamora .
