The TV Verl (officially: Turnverein von 1912 Verl eV ) is a sports club from Verl in the Gütersloh district . The first women's handball team played in the third division for two years .

history

The club was founded in January 1912 as the gymnastics club Deutsche Jugendkraft Verl . Twenty years later the association took its current name. With over 3,400 members, TV Verl is the largest sports club in the city. In addition to handball, the club also offers badminton , basketball , running , athletics , rhythmic gymnastics , table tennis , triathlon , dodgeball and volleyball .

Handball

The handball players of TV Verl became champions of the Oberliga Westfalen in 2006 and were promoted to the Regionalliga West . As the third last, the losers had to dismount directly. In 2010, TV Verl again secured the championship of the Oberliga Westfalen and rose to the 3rd division, where the team was assigned to the Eastern Group. After the close relegation in the 2010/11 season , the team was transferred to the western group for the following season as a few team from Ostwestfalen-Lippe . At the end of the season it went back down to the Oberliga Westfalen. There the losers were runner-up behind ASC 09 Dortmund two years later .

The men of TV Verl were promoted to the Association League Westphalia in 2005. Two years later, he was promoted to the Oberliga Westfalen, where the Verler achieved fifth place in the 2007/08 promotion season. Three years later, the team was relegated from the bottom of the table in the association league and had to relegate to the state league in 2018. With Christoph Dübener , a former second division player played for the Verler for a short time .

The home ground of the Verler handball players is the sports hall at the Verler Gymnasium with a capacity of 1,000 seats.
