Taüll is a village in the municipality of Vall de Boí in the Lleida province of the autonomous community of Catalonia in Spain . It is on the edge of the Pyrenees in the northeast corner of the Comarca Alta Ribagorça .
General
The name of the village means ATA-ULI ("the top of the village"). It is located at an altitude of 1520 meters in the valley of the river of the same name, Sant Martí . To the west of the village, the Sant Martí flows into the Noguera de Tor . The village is divided into two parts by a gorge. The lower part is called La Guinsa and the upper part is called Lo Barri.
history
In 806, the Count of Tolosa liberated the region from Muslim rule, to which they owed tribute . The village later became dependent on the Urgell diocese .
262 inhabitants lived in Taüll in 2005.
Attractions
The sights of the village include the Romanesque churches of Sant Climent de Taüll and Sant Maria de Taüll . Both churches have been part of the world heritage since 2000 .
