Tacinga funalis is a species of the genus Tacinga in the cactus family(Cactaceae). Portuguese common names are "Rabo de Rato", "Rabo de Gato", "Cipó de Espinho", "Quipá Voador" and "Trançaperna".

Tacinga funalis grows shrubby with initially upright, then spread out or leaning-climbing, 1 to 12 meters long, only slightly branched shoots . The bright green shoots are round, indistinct and have a diameter of 1 to 2 centimeters. Especially younger shoot parts are covered with a white down. The rudiments of the leaves , up to 5 millimeters long , soon fall off. The brown areoles on the shoots are covered with white glochids . There are no thorns .

The light green to slightly purple flowers are 7 to 9 inches long. Your bracts are strongly pushed back. The long, slender, conical to club-shaped fruits are tinged with green to purple. They are 4 to 5 centimeters long and have a diameter of up to 2 centimeters. Their areoles have glochids. The fruits contain 3 to 5  seeds , but are often sterile and sprouting.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Tacinga funalis is common in the caatinga vegetation in northeastern Brazil at altitudes of 380 to 950 meters. The first description was in 1919 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose .

Tacinga funalis is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. not endangered, classified.
