Tad Danielewski

Tad Danielewski (born March 29, 1921 in Radom , Poland as Tadeusz Zbigniew Danielewski , † January 6, 1993 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American director of Polish descent.

During World War II he supported the Polish underground and was interned at the end of the war . After the war he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and founded the Professional Actors Workshop in New York , where actors such as Martin Sheen , James Earl Jones and Mercedes Ruehl completed their training. In 1961 Danielewski made the film The Big Wave , based on a story by Pearl S. Buck about a volcanic eruption and the subsequent tidal wave that wiped out a Japanese fishing village. In 1962 No Exit followed , a film adaptation of the play Closed Society by Jean-Paul Sartre . In 1965 Danielewski took over the direction of the English version of Guide , an Indian- American co-production.

He is the father of singer Ann Danielewski (better known as Poe ) and Mark Z. Danielewski , author of the books House of Leaves and Only Revolutions .

Danielewski died of cancer in 1993.
