Walter Weber (born March 12, 1917 in Recherswil ; † January 11, 2008 in Derendingen , entitled to live in Niederösch ) was a Swiss politician ( SP ).

biography

Weber was a primary teacher from 1937 to 1957 and a secondary teacher from 1957 to 1969 in Derendingen. He and practiced this profession until his election as mayor (mayor) of Derendingen in 1969. From 1969 until his retirement in 1982 he was the first full-time mayor.

From 1946 to 1974 Weber was a member of the Solothurn Cantonal Council , which he also chaired in 1967. From 1971 to 1987 he represented the Canton of Solothurn in the Council of States . 1982/83 he held the office of the Council of States President .

He was active in finance and tax policy, u. a. in working on the creation of the Tax Harmonization Act, social policy, in particular in a revision of the Health Insurance Act and foreign policy in its commitment to the ratification of the European Social Charter and Switzerland's accession to the UN.

Ernst Leuenberger described Weber in an obituary as a fighter for the social democratic cause, who acted with care for compromise and mediation.
