Tadao Kasami

Tadao Kasami ( Japanese 嵩 忠雄 , Kasami Tadao ; born April 12, 1930 in Kobe , Japan ; † March 18, 2007 ) was a Japanese computer scientist and electrical engineer working in the field of error correction methods , a branch of coding theory and information theory . He is the namesake of the Kasami sequences , which are used in the field of code division multiple access (CDMA), and co-developer of the Cocke-Younger-Kasami algorithm in the field of theoretical computer science . In 1999 he received the Claude E. Shannon Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for his work in the field of information theory .

Kasami graduated with a Ph.D. until 1963 electrical engineering at the University of Osaka and held a teaching position at the university until 1992. From 1992 to 1998 he was a professor at the Nara Institute of Science and Technology , from 1998 until his retirement in 2004 he taught at Hiroshima City University .
