Tadeusz Wojciechowski (born August 4, 1952 in Warsaw ) is a Polish conductor and cellist .

Wojciechowski studied cello with Andrzej Orkisz and conducting with Stanisław Wisłocki at the Warsaw Music Academy . From 1973–74 he attended the master class of cellist Bernard Michelin at the Paris Conservatory . During this time he worked with the Orchester de Versaille , Les Musiciens de Paris , the Orchester des Pasdeloup , the Orchester de Colonne and the Orchester de Conservatoire . In 1973 he received third prize as a chamber musician at the Gaudeamus International Competition for Contemporary Music in Rotterdam, second prize at the Dezyderiusz Danczowski cello competition in Poznan in 1974 and second prize at the international conductor competition in Besançon in 1979.

1976-77 he was concertmaster of the Polish Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Jerzy Maksymiuk , with whom he undertook concert tours to Italy, Germany and Great Britain and made recordings. From 1976 to 1982 he was a conductor at the Warsaw Teater Wielki . In 1983 he became chief conductor of the Royal Copenhagen Opera ; he held this position until 1996. In addition, he became director of the Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir Kraków in 1994 and, after its dissolution, director of the Teatr Wielki until 2006 and conducted as a guest at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, and the Royal Opera in Stockholm and the Royal Opera in Oslo.

From 1998 to 2004 Wojciechowski was artistic director of the music festival in Łańcut and the Filharmonia Rzeszowska . In 2002 he became chief conductor of the Pomeranian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra , and from 2005 to 2008 he was artistic director of the Łódź Philharmonic . He has been Artistic Director since 2009 and General Director of Polska Orkiestra Sinfonia Iuventus since 2012 .

In addition, he made appearances in Germany, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Slovenia, Italy, France, Turkey, the USA, Mexico, Colombia and Japan and made many archive recordings for Polish radio and Danish radio. He is also the first guest conductor of the Latvian National Opera in Riga and works regularly with the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. In 2007 he was awarded the Silver Gloria Artis Medal for Cultural Merit .
