European Day of Jewish Culture
The European Day of Jewish Culture is a day of action , which is celebrated annually since 1999 on the first Sunday of September. Today, it is jointly organized by Jewish and non-Jewish organizations in almost 30 European countries and is intended to provide a better understanding of European Judaism , its history, traditions and customs in the past and present. On this occasion, guided tours to sites of Jewish culture , concerts, exhibitions, lectures, etc. are organized on a local and regional level with an annually changing main theme .
coordination
The European Association for the preservation and promotion of culture and heritage of Judaism , (Engl. European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage , AEPJ) coordinates the action. It is based in Girona , Spain. Its sponsors are six organizations
- B'nai B'rith Europe,
- Red de Juderías de España - Caminos de Sefarad ( Network of Jewish Cities in Spain - Sephardic Migration Routes).
- Social Juif Unifié Fund
- Rede de Judiarias de Portugal
- Unione delle Comunità Ebraiche Italiane
- Journées Européennes de la Culture et du Patrimoine Juifs - France (JECPJ France)
There are national coordinators in each participating country.
Germany
On the day of the event in 2009, September 6th, the Landschaftsverband Rheinland (LVR) opened the LVR-Kulturhaus Landsynagoge Rödingen with a permanent exhibition on the subject of "Jewish life in the Rhineland", since then the European Day of Jewish Culture has been celebrated in Rödingen every year.
2015 officially participate in Germany
- 46 places and institutions in Baden-Württemberg
- in Bavaria the Jewish Culture Museum Augsburg-Swabia and the Jewish Community Center in Munich
- in North Rhine-Westphalia the Jewish Museum Westphalia , the Old Synagogue Essen (in cooperation with the Salomon Ludwig Steinheim Institute ) and the LVR-Kulturhaus Landsynagoge Rödingen .
