Days of Longing ( Persian روزهای انتظار, Ruzha-ye Entezaar ) is an Iranian film directed by Asghar Hashemi . It is his first feature film as a director and the first Iranian film to be shot in the desert during the winter.

Many tent dwellers who live in the central desert of Iran are tired of the unfair prices that a speculator charges you for grain. Grain that he had previously bought from them, only to then sell them their own harvest at a price many times higher. The tent residents therefore decide to purchase the food for their starved animals from other suppliers. But the speculator has intimidated his competition so much that they think twice before selling at cheaper prices. The desert dwellers instruct a representative to drive into the urban area to get grain there. When the agent is later supposed to bring the grain feed to his place, he learns that the truck drivers refuse to take the risk and drive through snow-covered moorland, which is a deadly danger.

Notes from the director

The film mainly depicts the struggle of people against the harsh, hostile nature, says Hashemi about his film: This is the first Iranian film that was shot in the desert in winter. Few would dare to have their film crew work under such conditions. I am for a realistic approach, far from heroism, exaggeration and adventure. Although there is something adventurous about this story, my work prefers to focus on human honor and dignity, although a concept of urban people drives the inhabitants of the arid desert from afar to continue struggling for survival. I always try to shed light on principles such as honor and selflessness in tribal life. Although it would have been easy to make an engaging adventure film, I embarked on a course that begins with life and ends with death. That is the message of my film. What matters to me is the solidarity and the honesty of the people. This is also why the main character in my film kneels down to accomplish the mission he was committed to before his knees began to bleed.
