Rouhollah Emami
Rouhollah "Bijan" Emami (also Ruhollah , Roohollah or Ruhallah ; Persian روحالله امامی; * February 26, 1941 in Tehran , Iran ; † November 15, 1999 ibid) was an Iranian film editor and film director .
Life
He came from a family of artists (grandfather: Ahmad Emami , father: Ali Emami ), known for the design of modern Iranian carving and inlay art . He first learned the profession of film editor from 1960 at the then Ministry of Culture (today: Ministry of Culture and Islamic Leadership ), before he devoted himself to studying direction and dramaturgy at the Tehran University of Art, which he completed in 1976 with an MA degree . Occasionally he was a guest lecturer here in the late 1970s.
He made his feature film debut as editor in 1969 in the film "Khaneh-ye kenare darya" ("The House by the Sea"), directed by Dr. Houshang Kavousi. In the following years he made a few documentaries before turning back to film editing . At the latest after his collaboration with the well-known Iranian filmmaker Sohrab Shahid Saless in the mid-seventies (including on the film "Tabiate Bijan (Still Life)", which was awarded in Berlin), he rose to become one of the most sought-after editors in the Iranian film industry and was awarded several times for his work has been awarded national prizes.
After the film industry came to a standstill in the course of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, he was involved as editor in one of the first major cinema productions in the Islamic Republic of Iran ("Tobe Nosuh" by the now internationally known director and activist Mohsen Makhmalbaf ). Even in the post-revolutionary film landscape, he was still one of the busiest of his guild and worked on up to eight projects a year.
In total, he has worked in over 130 productions in 38 years of his activity and has worked with many well-known Iranian filmmakers, including a. with: Abbas Kiarostami (Zang-e-Tafrih), Sohrab Shahid Saless (Tabiate bijan, Iranian competition entry at the 1974 Berlin International Film Festival ), Parviz Sayyad (Bonbast), Masoud Kimiai (Soltan), Khosrow Sinai (Zendeh bad! (Viva ...!), Hayoola-ye daroon), Mohsen Makhmalbaf (Tobe Nosuh) and many more.
Rouhollah Emami died of cancer on November 15, 1999.
The two children Pedram and Nazgol come from his marriage to the Iranian Shahla Miri .
