The Taglung Monastery ( Tib . : stag lung dgon chen or stag lung thang ) in the Lhünzhub district is a monastery belonging to the Taglung Kagyu - one of the so-called "eight small schools" of the Kagyu school tradition - of Tibetan Buddhism . It was founded in 1180 by Taglung Thangpa Trashi Pel (Tib .: stag lung thang pa bkra shis dpal; 1142–1209 / 10). Ngawang Namgyel (1571–1626) wrote a history of the school.
The monastery is the seat of the Taglung Shabdrung lineage holders or Taglung Shabdrung Rinpoches .
The monastery is on the list of monuments of the Tibet Autonomous Region .
