The Taieri Plains are an area of fertile land southwest of Dunedin in the region Otago in New Zealand . The plain is about 300 km² with a largest extension of about 30 km.

The alluvial plain of the Taieri and Waipori Rivers is bounded in the west by the Maungatua and Silverpeaks mountain ranges , in the south and east by a low range of hills along the coast.

Dairy farming and sheep breeding determine agriculture, the keeping of deer is gaining in importance. Because of the formation of the plain, floods are not uncommon, especially at the confluence of the two rivers. Therefore, dikes were created to protect the cultivated areas, the houses and the Dunedin International Airport near Momona , and State Highway 1 crosses the plain.

New Zealand's lowest point, which is about 2 m below sea level, is north of the airport on Kirks Drain Road .

To the northeast of the plain is the city of Dunedin, separated from the plain by a chain of jagged hills that are part of the crater of an extinct volcano. The town of Mosgiel, which belongs to Dunedin, is located on the northeastern edge of the plain . Other settlements and localities are Outram , Henley , Allanton and Momona.

In the southeast, rolling hills separate the Taieri Plains from the other lowland areas of the Clutha District on the Tokomairiro River and the Clutha River . The twin lakes, Lake Waihola and Lake Waipori, are located in these hills.
