Tails' Skypatrol is a shoot-'em-up - video game , that of SIMS Co., Ltd. and JSH / Biox and published by Sega for the Sega Game Gear exclusively in Japan on April 28, 1995. Along with Tails Adventure, it is one of two Sega game gear games from 1995 in which Sonic's companion Miles Tails Prower plays the leading role.
action
Miles Tails Prower has joined the so-called Skypatrol , which fights the evil witch Witchcart on an unnamed island , who can turn her adversaries into crystals. Tails aims to take out Witchcart .
Gameplay
In Tails' Skypatrol , the player takes control of the two-tailed fox Tails, who is permanently in his flight formation in this game, and automatically completes side-scrolling flight levels. If Tails touches an enemy or a wall, he loses one of his lives. The goal is to reach the end of the level. Use the control pad to move Tails up, down, forwards or backwards. Tails can shoot a ring forward at the push of a button to hit opponents or gimmicks, and then collects it again. Actions earn points.
The game consists of five zones ( Training Area , Rail Canyon Area , Ruin Wood Area , Metal Island Area and Dark Castle Area ), which can be defined as levels . Each zone has its own theme, appearance and variety of opponents. In the end the fight against witchcart awaits . Five different items can be collected during a level: an extra life, 1000 points in the form of a crystal, a mint candy to refresh the duration of the flight ability, a checkpoint in the form of a bell and temporary invulnerability in the form of a star.
development
The developer studios SIMS Co., Ltd. and JSH / Biox were responsible for Tails' Skypatrol . The fact that the game was only released in Japan could have something to do with the Tails Adventure , released five months later , which Sega thought might be more successful. It is noticeable that all developers only wanted to be named by nickname or artist name in the credits.
reception
Tails' Skypatrol received mixed to negative ratings. The very high level of difficulty and the short playing time were criticized.
New releases
After Tails' Skypatrol was first released for the Sega Game Gear, the game was also on Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut (2003, Nintendo GameCube , PC ), Sonic Gems Collection (2005, Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2 ) and Sonic PC Collection (2009 , PC) included.
