Tails Adventure is a 2D platformers Run - video game , that of Aspect Co. Ltd. develops and by Sega for the Sega Game Gear was first published in the US on September 11 1995th Along with Tails' Skypatrol, it is one of two Sega Game Gear games from 1995 in which Sonic's companion Miles Tails Prower plays the leading role. The game relies on Metroidvania gameplay and is intentionally kept comparatively slow.

action

According to the game's Japanese manual, Tails Adventure is about Tails' first encounter with Sonic just before Sonic the Hedgehog 2 , which would also explain his lack of Spin Attack . This contradicts the English-language manual, according to which Sonic and Tails are taking a break from their adventures and Tails is on vacation on Cocoa Island . He is woken up by an explosion and a Flicky tells Tails about the attack by the Battle Kuku Army under the leadership of Great Battle Kukku 15th , who discovered the Chaos Emeralds on Cocoa Island and is now aiming for world domination. Tails decides to face the enemy.

Gameplay

In Tails Adventure , the player takes control of the two-tailed fox Tails in a side-scrolling 2D platformer. In addition to the directional pad for movement, Tails can jump (without a spin attack ), fly and throw bombs. Its energy is indicated by a ring counter, of which Tails has ten at the beginning. Rings can be obtained by collecting or defeating opponents. The game is designed to be very slow for a platform game, especially compared to standard Sonic games. Exploring the levels and finding items is the main part of the game. A total of 26 items can be found in the game, but Tails can only carry four at a time. It is therefore important to remember which items are required in which levels. The backtracking makes Tails Adventure a Metroidvania title.

The game consists of twelve zones ( Poloy Forest , Volcanic Tunnel , Polly Mt. 1 , Lake Rocky , Cavern Island , Green Island , Caron Forest , Lake Crystal , Polly Mt. 2 , Coco Island , Battle Fortress 1 and Battle Fortress 2 ), which can be defined as a level . Each zone usually has its own theme, appearance and variety of opponents. If Chaos Emeralds are found in the levels, Tails' energy meter and the possible duration of his propeller flight increase.

development

The development studio Aspect Co. Ltd, which already had experience with Sonic games on the Sega Game Gear, was responsible for Tails Adventure . A few months earlier, the Japan-exclusive Tails' Skypatrol , which was developed by SIMS and JSH, was released. The sound composer Kojiro Mikusa was also responsible for the soundtrack of Sonic Blast for the Sega Game Gear in 1996 . When it came to the re-release for the Nintendo 3DS, the ratings tended to be lower.
