Takayo is a band founded on January 1st, 1988 in Leipzig , which mainly plays melodic, acoustic instrumental music. The compositions are characterized by pop music, jazz and folk .

Surname

Takayo is also a Japanese female given name. The band name is derived from Kayode Eschrich's first name.

history

Takayo was founded in 1988 by Ulrich Schroedter (formerly with Passion , Dialog ), Kayode Eschrich (formerly with Dialog) and Ulrich Mücke (formerly with Passion, Caesar's rock band ). A short time later, the GDR radio produced the titles Diabolo , Skateboard , Bengalisches Feuer and Takayo . In July 1989, they toured the occasion of the World Festival of Youth and Students to Pyongyang . Guest performances have taken her to Cuba, Bulgaria, Poland and Hungary. After the reunification , the band continued to be successful. In 1991 Mücke was replaced by Jan Kirsten (formerly at Karussell ).

In 1994 Takayo took part in the Leipzig Opera Ball and played from 1996 to 1998 as a backing band with Gunther Schmache . In the 2000s, the violin playing of the "devil's violinist" Ulrich Schroedter was in the foreground. In addition to appearances under the name Takayo, the band has played in theater projects at the Uckermärkische Bühnen Schwedt since 1991 and appears as rockhounds with Andy One Voice . Dörte Simon (vocals) and Benno Jähnert (drums), with Karussell since 2009, occasionally strengthen the band.
