Takeshi Matsuda ( Japanese 松田 丈 志 , Matsuda Takeshi ; born June 23, 1984 in Miyazaki ) is a Japanese swimmer .

Career

Matsuda reached three finals at the 2004 Short Course World Championships in Indianapolis . Over 400 m freestyle and with the 4 × 100 m individual medley relay he reached sixth place, over 200 m butterfly Matsuda came eighth. He once reached a final at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens . He finished eighth and last in the 400 m freestyle. Over 1500 m freestyle he was eliminated in the preliminary run, over 200 m butterfly in the semi-finals. The Japanese made his final international breakthrough at the 2005 World Cup in Montreal by winning the silver medal on the 200 m butterfly course. With the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay, Matsuda was fifth. The following year he won bronze twice at the Pan-Pacific Games in Victoria over 1500 m freestyle and 200 m butterfly. With the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay he was also fourth, over 400 m freestyle sixth. He also took part in the Summer Universiade 2005 and won bronze in the 400 m and 800 m freestyle and silver in the 200 m freestyle and with the relay.

His best result at the 2007 World Cup in Melbourne reached Matsuda with the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay. The Japanese could not qualify for the finals on other routes. In Beijing he took part in the Summer Olympics for the second time . After he was eliminated in the prerun in the 400 m freestyle, he reached the final in the 200 m butterfly and there came third behind Michael Phelps and László Cseh .
