Takoradi Power Plant is a thermal power plant in the Republic of Ghana . The plant consists of three thermal power plants and is located near the deep-water port around 17 kilometers east of the twin city of Sekondi-Takoradi on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea .

history

At the end of 1990, the land in the Aboadze community was acquired and expanded by the government of Ghana. In addition to the actual operating area, a tank farm and an underwater pipeline around 4.5 kilometers long to the specially constructed deep-sea jetty off the coast were built. The delivered oil can be temporarily stored in four storage tanks with a capacity of 29,500 cubic meters each. The power plant site was also connected to the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP). This means that the power plants can also be operated with natural gas as an alternative .

Power Station T1

The first power plant, operator Volta River Authority (VRA) was officially inaugurated on October 15, 2000 by President Jerry Rawlings . It is a combined cycle power plant with an installed capacity of 330  megawatts, combined by two 110 MW combustion gas turbines and one 110 MW steam turbine.

Power Station T2

The second plant has a capacity of 220 MW and can be expanded to 330 MW if necessary. The operator is the Takoradi International Company (TICO).

Power Station T3

The third combined cycle power plant with an output of 132 MW has been under construction since 2011. It is operated with four gas turbines and one steam turbine . The Canadian Commercial Corporación , an international contracting agency that is the general contractor of the companies involved in the construction, received the contract with a volume of around 187 million US dollars . T3 is financed by the Canadian government. The operator is the Volta River Authority. The completion took place in 2015.

Power Station T4

The Takoradi 4 Thermal Power Plant (T4) with an output of 186 MW will go into operation in 2018. [outdated]
