The Takotna River is an approximately 190 km long right tributary of the Kuskokwim River in the southwestern interior of Alaska .
The river arises in the Kuskokwim Mountains from the confluence of Little Waldren Fork and Moore Creek . From there it flows northeast. In the lower reaches it takes the Nixon Fork from the left and the Tatalina River from the right. Eventually it flows into the Kuskokwim River across from McGrath .
The name of the native inhabitants for the river was first documented in 1838 by Alexander Kolmakow. LA Sagoskin from the Imperial Russian Navy , who led an expedition to the region from 1842-44, recorded the names "Tochotno" and "Tochatno". WS Post from the United States Geological Survey used the spelling "Tachatna" in 1898. The current name, "Takotna", was established in 1908 by AG Maddren, also from the USGS.
