Takuto Otoguro ( Japanese 乙 黒 拓 斗 , Otoguro Takuto ; born December 13, 1998 in Yamanashi Prefecture ) is a Japanese wrestler . In 2018 he became world champion in free style in the weight class up to 65 kg body weight.

Career

Takuto Otoguro began wrestling as a young student. He comes from a family of wrestlers, and his older brother Keisuko Otoguro is one of the best Japanese freestyle wrestlers. After transferring to Teikyo High School (secondary school) in Tokyo, he quickly became one of the best young Japanese wrestlers. In 2014, 2015 and 2016 he was Japanese high school master in the weight classes up to 50 kg, 55 kg and 60 kg body weight. He has been attending Yamanashi Gaksun University in Tokyo since 2017 and starts for the university's wrestling club.

With a good placement at the Japanese Championship 2017, he qualified for participation in the Meiji Cup in Tokyo, which took place in June 2018. To the surprise of many, he won this tournament in the weight class up to 65 kg in front of the Olympic silver medalist Rei Higuchi , whom he defeated in the final with 6-0 points. In July 2018, he had to compete in a decisive battle for the starting place at the 2018 World Cup against the Japanese champion from 2017 Daichi Takatani , who could not take part in the Meiji Cup due to an injury. Takuto Otoguro's international career began in 2013 when he won a bronze medal in the weight class up to 46 kg at the Junior World Championships (Cadets) in Zrenjanin. In 2014 he became Asian Junior (Cadet) champion in the weight class up to 50 kg body weight in Bangkok. At the Junior World Championships 2015 (Cadets) he lost in the 2nd round against the Iranian Nader Amirgholi Nasrisamakoush and only came in 11th place. In April 2018, he and Daichi Takatani represented the Japanese colors at the Team World Cup in Iowa City.
