Talash ( Persian تلاش Telasch , 'aspiration, effort') is an Iranian mobile, all-weather medium- to long-range surface -to-air guided missile system . It was presented to the public in November 2013 and has been in use since September 2017.

technology

Talash-2

The Talash-2 air defense system is operated by the air defense forces of the Iranian Air Force and can intercept and combat targets such as reconnaissance aircraft and drones at medium to high altitudes and over medium distances. It consists of the following components:

  • a mobile vehicle, which comprises two or four Sayyad-2 - ground-to-air missiles carries loaded boot device
  • a surveillance and target tracking radar called "Kavosh"
  • a fire control radar named "Ofoq"
  • two fire control or command posts on one additional vehicle each

The system should pursue up to 30 targets and intercept twelve of them at the same time. It has a range of 35–70 km and should be connected to the antenna post K-1 (transmitting / receiving cabin) of the S-200 .

Sayyad

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards introduced a related system called "Sayyad", which uses a Najm 802 AESA radar instead of the Kavosh and Ofoq radars to locate and track targets. A Najm-802 radar supports up to six launch devices, each with four rocket launch containers, and the radar also has Track-While-Scan capabilities (TWS), so it can track detected targets and at the same time look for other potential targets at a distance of 150 km.

This system can use up to six Sayyad-2 missiles to attack three targets simultaneously over a distance of 50 km and at an altitude of up to 27 km.

Talash-3

As an extension and future replacement of the aging Russian S-200 systems, which are still in use in Iran, the Talash-2 air defense system has been modified and improved. Known this newer version as "Talash-3" and unlike its predecessor, it uses also improved Sayyad-3 - ground-to-air missiles , which have a longer range than the Sayyad-2 air missiles -floor have. In addition to the surface-to-air missiles used, the radar systems were also replaced with newer and more powerful radars. Probably the Hafez-3D were AESA - fire control radar and a 2D phased array search radar chosen either the type "Arash-2" or type "Keyhan". The Arash-2 radar should be able to detect small drones at a distance of up to 150 km and the Keyhan radar should be able to identify cruise missiles and drones .
