Talitha MacKenzie

Talitha MacKenzie (* in Long Island , New York ) is an American world music singer who draws on Celtic , Scottish-Gaelic and Eastern European folk .

Life

Talitha MacKenzie grew up in a multicultural environment, which gave her an advantage for her later music career. She learned Spanish, Russian, and French in high school and later studied Russian at Connecticut College . After college, she moved to Manhattan and devoted herself to "unusual rhythms and exotic modes" of folk dances from around the world at the World Tone Music Store. After her theoretical musical studies, she graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in ethnomusicology and music history.

First recordings of traditional music

In 1986 she released her first album Shantyman under the pseudonym Talitha Nelson , on which contributions from Anne Goodwin and Tony Morris could be found. In 1987 she moved to Edinburgh and became a member of the folk ensemble Drumalban . From 1989 to 1991 she was a member of the Mouth Music project .

Solo career

In 1993 MacKenzie released her second solo album Sòlas , which was produced by Riverboaf Records. In 1996 the third album Spiorad followed .
