Talnach ( Russian Талнах ) is a formerly independent city and today's district of Norilsk with 47,307 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in the north of the Krasnoyarsk region in Russia .
City rights Talnach received in November 1982. 2004 it was together with Kayerkan by Norilsk incorporated. Talnach is about 25 km northeast of the center of Norilsk and is connected to it by a road. The residents of Talnach can also use the Alykel airport , which is located about 40 km west of Norilsk.
During an expedition in 1920, coal and sulfur were discovered in the region of what would later become the Talnach , later copper and nickel were found . The Soviet Union pushed ahead with the mining of raw materials without considering the environment . For this purpose, one of the largest tunnel and mine systems in the world was created. Functional industrial buildings added to the dreary impression of a city that is only slowly recovering from the sins of earlier years. Nevertheless, especially in the 1970s and 1980s, many people were put to work there (see population development ). Since the collapse of the Soviet empire, the number of inhabitants has decreased slightly, but the extraction of raw materials is still the only source of income.
