The Koberbach dam is a dam in the northwest of the Zwickau district in the Free State of Saxony . It was built for the industrial water supply in Neukirchen and Crimmitschau and is now used exclusively for flood protection and recreation.
Historical
The factory owner Guido Wolf from Neukirchen founded a stock corporation in 1925 in order to create a dam in Kobertal for a better service water supply for the Crimmitschau textile industry . After twelve years of preparation, construction began in the spring of 1926 . The land acquisition required for this extended to about 69 hectares in the corridors of the communities of Langenhessen and Niederalbertsdorf (formerly Kleinbernsdorf). For this purpose, the valley road from Kleinbernsdorf to Langenhessen had to be relocated over a length of around 3 km. The construction costs of 4.2 million marks were covered by the sale of shares and by productive welfare for the unemployed. After only three years of construction, the dam was put into operation in October 1929 .
After the liquidation of the Crimmitschau Talsperren-Aktiengesellschaft in 1953 , the Koberbach Dam was publicly administered as public property .
The construction
The dam of the Koberbach dam is a rubble dam with an inclined inner seal made of clay. The dammed body of water is the Koberbach, a tributary of the Pleiße , and the Erdbach. The barrier structure was the first modern earthfill dam in Germany.
The dam has a pre- dam that was built in 1972. On the panorama picture you can see the dam of the pre-dam on the right and its overflow on the left.
Freetime activities
Recreational sports (swimming, sailing and diving) are possible at the reservoir. The reservoir is an official bathing water . There is also a boat rental, a campsite , various catering establishments and a drive-in cinema . The Koberbach triathlon , which has been held since 2010, has established itself as an annual highlight .
