The Nunes Dam ( Portuguese Barragem de Nunes ) is located in the northern region of Portugal in the Bragança district . It dams the Tuela , the left (eastern) source river of the Tua, to a reservoir. The small town of Vinhais is about four kilometers west of the dam.
The Nunes dam was completed in 1995.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a weight arched concrete wall with a height of 21.5 m above the foundation level (18.5 m above the river bed). The top of the wall is at a height of 542.3 m above sea level . The length of the wall crown is 65.5 m. The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 52.36 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 1,350 m³ / s via the flood discharge.
Reservoir
With the normal storage target of 535.5 m (maximum 541.3 m at high water), the reservoir holds around 0.138 million m³ of water - of which 0.098 million m³ can be used. The minimum congestion target is 532 m.
power plant
Two Francis turbines with a maximum output of 9.9 MW together are installed. The average annual production is 41.56 million kWh .
The power plant is owned by the Sociedade Produtora de Energia Mini-Hídrica, Lda .
