The Piedras Moras dam ( Spanish Dique Piedras Moras ) is a dam with hydroelectric power station in the province of Cordoba , Argentina . It dams the Río Tercero to a reservoir. The town of Almafuente is on the right (south) side of the reservoir.

The dam is used for drinking water supply, irrigation and electricity generation. Construction of the dam began in 1972. It was completed in 1979. The power plant went into operation in 1995. It is operated by the Empresa Provincial de Energía de Córdoba (EPEC).

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a bulk dam with a height of 26 m. The top of the dam is at a height of 432 m above sea level . The weir system with the four weir fields is on the left.

Reservoir

When the reservoir is fully blocked, it extends over an area of ​​around 5.9 (or 6 to 9) km².

power plant

The power plant's machine house is at the foot of the dam. The installed capacity with a Kaplan turbine is 6.3  MW .
