The dam Shuikou is a dam with hydroelectric power plant in the province of Fujian , China . It dams the Min Jiang into a reservoir. The associated power plant has an installed capacity of 1400 MW .

The dam is 94 km downstream from Nanping and 84 km upstream from the provincial capital Fuzhou .

history

The project was approved by the State Planning Commission in 1985. Construction work began in March 1987. The jam started in March 1993 and in July of the same year the first machine was put into operation. The last machine was commissioned in December 1996.

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 101 m. The length of the top of the wall is 783 m. One half of the barrier structure consists of the machine house on the left side of the river, the other half of the weir system with 12 segment weirs and a lock on the right bank.

The design flood is 43,600 (or 51,800) m³ / s; the probability of this event occurring has been determined to be once in 1,000 (or 10,000) years. The average annual runoff is 1728 m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 65 m above sea level , the reservoir extends over an area of around 94 km² and a length of 96 km; it holds 2.34 (or 2.6) billion m³ of water - of which 700 million m³ can be used to generate electricity.

power plant

The power plant has an installed capacity of 1400 MW . The average annual generation is 4.95 billion kWh . Each of the 7 machines in the power plant has a maximum output of 200 MW.

Others

The World Bank issued 2 loans totaling USD 240 million . Around 67,000 people had to be resettled for the construction of the dam. In a study, the World Bank concluded that the relocation practice has been successful.
