The dam Tsankov Kamak is a dam with hydroelectric plant in Smolyan , Bulgaria . It dams the Watscha to a reservoir. The associated power plant has an installed capacity of 80 MW . The Watscha dam is about 10 km downstream.
The dam is owned by the Nazionalna Elektritscheska Kompanija EAD (NEK EAD) and is also operated by NEK EAD.
Barrier structure
The shut-off is a double-curved arch dam of concrete with a height of 130.5 m above the foundation bed . The top of the wall is at a height of 688.5 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 468 (or 460) m. The volume of the structure is 520,000 (or 465,000) m³. The thickness of the dam varies from 8.8 to 27.6 m.
The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief with four gates. A maximum of 1450 m³ / s can be discharged via the flood relief.
Reservoir
If the reservoir is fully blocked, it will hold 111 million m³ of water - of which a maximum of 41 million m³ can be used to generate electricity. The reservoir extends over a length of 15 km.
power plant
The power plant is located 1.5 km from the dam on the left bank of the Watscha. It went into operation in December 2010 and is used to cover peak loads . The power plant has an installed capacity of 80 MW . The average annual production is 185 million kWh . The two Francis turbines of the power plant each have a maximum output of 40 (or 43.2) MW and the generators 50 MVA . The maximum height of fall is 135.4 m; the minimum 120.4 m. The maximum flow is a total of 69.5 m³ / s.
Another Francis turbine with an output of 1.29 MW is located at the dam. It is used to use the water that is directed into the old river bed for ecological reasons in order to guarantee a certain minimum inflow there.
Others
The total cost of the project was originally estimated at € 160 (or 220) million ; by July 2009 they had risen to € 326 million.
