Tamás Fejér (born December 29, 1920 in Pécs , Hungary ; † September 4, 2006 ) was a Hungarian film director .

Life

Fejér came to film without proper training. He learned the basics himself and made several amateur short films in the late 1930s. In 1943 he published a book on film theory.

Fejér was involved in various productions for cinema and television from 1945, worked as an assistant director until 1955 and finally took over directing short and feature films from that time. He made his directorial debut in 1959 with The Dog Bogancs and devoted himself increasingly to children's and youth films in the following years. In 1962, after the reorganization of the Hungarian film industry, he became head of the Hungarian Film Studio II.

His 1980 film Ernste Spiele was a co-production between Hungary and the GDR and his only work that was not produced exclusively in his own country. In addition to film work, Fejér also worked as a lecturer at the Budapest Academy of Drama and Film .
