Tamarez

Tamarez is an autochthonous white wine variety in Portugal. Their cultivation is recommended in the regions of Beira Litoral, Beira Interior Norte , Beira Interior Sul , Ribatejo and Oeste . It is also approved in the Trás-os-Montes and Algarve regions . The forested area was 1318 hectares in 1999 . The variety was mentioned in writing by Vincencio Alarte as early as 1712.

The late ripening variety produces acidic wines . It is therefore also used to produce base wines for distillation .

In the Alentejo region and near Setúbal , Tamarez is a synonym for the Trincadeira das Pratas grape variety . However, both varieties are not related to each other.
