The Tampines Expressway (abbreviation: TPE, Chinese : 淡 滨 尼 高速公路; Pinyin : Dànbīnní Gāosù Gōnglù; malay : Lebuhraya Tampines; Tamil : தெம்பினீஸ் விரைவுச்சாலை) is a highway on the north-eastern edge of Singapore. It starts at the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) near the Singapore Changi Airport in the east and then runs in a north-westerly direction to the interchange with the Central Expressway (CTE) and the Seletar Expressway (SLE) where it ends.

history

The expressway was built with the development of Tampines in the 1980s. It was created by widening Tampines Road , which serves as the gateway from Hougang to Tampines and Changi . The first section opened on September 30, 1987.

The second phase of the expressway closes the gap and prepares the development of the new city of Pasir Ris. It opened on May 30, 1989.

The third phase of the expressway extends through the Punggol and Seletar areas, by digging the Punggol and Seletar flyovers, and joins the Seletar expressway. It opened in August 1996.

In 1998, two new viaducts and a loop were built between TPE and PIE to reduce travel times between Pasir Ris, Tampines and Changi Airport . Construction of the new flyover on Upper Changi Road East also began in 2015, but the flyover was discontinued on July 14, 2017.
